Illustrator CS6 Tutorial

In this movie I'll show you how to save a document to the native AI or Adobe Illustrator format. Take a look at the name of the document up here in the Title tab, it says 8-page newsletter.ai with an asterisk at the end of it. That Asterisk indicates that we have unsaved changes. You can update the file on disk in one or two ways. Go to the of the File menu and choose to Save command, which will overwrite the existing file.  The thing is if you choose to Save command in the case of this specific file, you'll see this warning message.

In this movie, I'll show you how I created the document that you see before you on screen. I'll give you a rough sense for what you can do in Illustrator and also give us a chance to save our changes in the very next movie. The name of the file is 8-page newsletter. ai is found inside the O1makedoc folder, and you can see that I've label each of my artboards with these big numbers. And each one of the numbers is exactly centered on the page. I am excited to show you how I did that because it's a really cool technique. So I am going to starts things off by going up to the Select menu and choosing the All Command, or you can press Ctrl+A , or Command+A on a Mac, that's going to select all eight of those numbers. In this movie I'll introduce you to the Advanced Controls that are available to you in creating a new document   in illustrator cs6 , they are not really any more advanced in what we've seen so far. It just happened to reside in an area of the dialog box called Advanced. We will go up to the File menu and choose a New command to bring up my New Document dialog box And I'll go ahead and call this document 8-page newsletter because that's what it's going to be. First draw out a chart with the Pie Chart tool. First you put in the information for your chart, or import it from an excel file: Your chart will look like this at first. (You might have a legend, too.) I prefer colored charts instead of the grayscale default Illustrator makes. Using the white arrow select a slice and choose a color from your swatches to change it. To make your chart 3d, select it first with the black arrow. Then go to Filters>3D>Extrude and Bevel. Use the settings in the example below: Now your chart should look like this. You can pull apart and edit the individual slices with the white pointer tool. Since the title of my information is about mutations, I’ll draw some mutations on the different slices, starting with the dark purple.
